Health, Safety & Activities Policy

We live on a beautiful but wild coast. This policy is about keeping everyone safe and being clear about who is responsible for what.

1. In the place

Please read any safety information provided. Do not tamper with electrical installations, gas appliances or smoke detectors. Report anything that looks unsafe immediately.

2. Children

Children remain the responsibility of the adults in their party at all times, particularly around water, pools, balconies, stairs and the sea.

3. The sea

Our beaches are largely unguarded, currents are strong and the water is cold. Swim only where it is safe and never alone. Rocks and cliff paths become dangerous in swell and wind.

4. Wildlife

Keep a lawful and sensible distance from whales, seals, penguins and other wildlife. Do not feed baboons or any wild animal, and keep food and refuse secured.

5. Activities we help you book

Where we arrange or recommend an activity — shark cage diving, boat trips, hikes, tours — that activity is operated by an independent, licensed operator. Your contract is with them, their safety rules and their indemnities apply, and we are not liable for what happens on it. We only ever recommend operators we would use ourselves.

6. Loadshedding and utilities

Loadshedding and municipal outages are a fact of South African life. Where a place has backup power or water, its capacity is described in the listing. We cannot guarantee uninterrupted supply.

7. Emergencies

Emergency numbers are provided in every place and on your confirmation. In an emergency call the emergency service first, then tell us.

8. Fire

Braai only in the facilities provided, never leave a fire unattended, and observe fire bans — they are common and strictly enforced in summer.
